Recommend a good CAD program for MAC OS

I cannot afford or figure out how to learn SolidWorks. The CAD software I have is pathetic, it was freeware.

Anyone recommend a good CAD program for Mac? Does AutoCAD run on Mac or just Windows?

Help ! ?

No autocad for OS X, at least not yet. Check out this discussion on Architosh, great site, can answer some of your Q’s.

I’m looking at this same question, being as I’m just about to get a Mac. (Two weeks and one day!) I believe that Autocad does not run on the Mac; this is why I’m also getting Windows XP. However, I’m also looking at other programs, and right now, ArchiCAD looks interesting. It appears to model a design as 3D and let you take views and do quantity takeoffs and such.

There’s a listing of CAD programs on the Apple site under Made4Mac > 2D/3D Graphics and Animation. And Architosh was the site I was trying to remember.

SketchUp is nice (depending on your needs).

I use QCad on Linux for drafting. There are Windows and Mac OS versions, which I assume work equally well.

The version I’m using is the Community Edition, which is free but not pre-packaged (available only in source form). If you didn’t want to build it manually on Mac OS, you can try/buy the Professional version. A license is around $33.

Hi, back. I use SketchUp 5 now and find it to be completely and utterly counterintuitive and maddening. Perhaps I’m not DOING it right… but aarrgh.

I’ll check out the sites listed here, many thanks.
