Recommend a good popular-level book on galaxies and cosmology

Mr. Neville is looking for a good popular-level book on galaxies and cosmology for the freshman astronomy-major class he’s teaching in the fall. He wants a popular-level book so that he doesn’t have to make his students buy two expensive textbooks. It needs to include material on dark energy, so it has to have been written or updated since 1998 or so (all the ones I’ve read were written before that, unfortunately). Any recommendations?

I have a good friend who teaches astrophysics and cosmology at the uni level. He also writes the blog esiegel | ScienceBlogs
I would recommend Mr. Neville check out the blog and ask Ethan directly, he can definitely point him in the right direction and is a very friendly and accessible guy. He’s also a sometime lurker here.
