Recommend a hot sauce

I"ve only tasted a couple of hot sauces in my life that I enjoy. My problem is, I like hot sauces that have good burn, but no flavor.

Tabasco is out.

I really like the stuff they give you at Wendy’s because it has no flavor, only spice.

Anyway, any ideas of a good hot sauce for me?

Check out if you’ve got a farmer’s market near by. I’ve been to a few and they always seem to have a novelty hot sauce shop with what you’re describing.

I do, they have and I’ve been there.

The trouble is there are dozens and dozens of different kinds and I have no idea which one to choose.

Cholula is my best all-purpose hot sauce, but I like burn and flavor!

Sauces I have tried:

Tobasco, Jalapeno, Habanero, Datil, Chipotle, salsa picante (cayenne pepper-based), Cholula.

Cholula wins, hands down. Nothing better.

I was at a place like that once. It’s where I learned that nine out of ten hot sauces are named for the digestive irregularities they supposedly cause.

Try Ass-Explosion brand hot sauce! It’s like napalm in your colon!

Dr. Diarrhea’s Intestine-Liquefier! Make friends with your toilet again!

It’s fucking gross, is what it is. I really like hot sauce, but I find these disgusting brand names extremely unappetizing.

Dave’s Insanity Sauce.

I agree with Pantellerite, Cholula is probably the best hot sauce I’ve tried…

D L Jardines Blazin’ Saddles only contains Habaneros, carrots, onions, lime juice, vinegar and salt. Goes with anything. Keep it on the table.

You may be turned off by the vinegar base of Tabasco. Try a sauce with a vegetable base instead of a vinegar base, like Melinda’s XXXtra Hot Habanero Sauce.

Anything from “Original Juan,” including “Xtreme,” 100% pain," or “Batch #[insert number here]”
You’ll go from  to  “Holy crap this is hot!!!” in just a few drops.

If you want really hot and non-vinigery go with Casey1505’s Dave’s Insanity Sauce. It is the hottest thing available that can be considered a sauce (as opposed to a flavouring) in that you can put some at the side of your plate and dip your fries into it. It really is MUCH hotter than tabasco and doen’t have that vinigeryness you get from tabasco.

I might have an unopened, sealed bottle at the house. If I can find it, I’d be happy to ship it off to you. I prefer Tabasco myself.

I second Dave’s Insanity Sauce. Not much flavor. Just pure heat. Just a couple drops will seriously kick up a whole pot of chili. I like mixing a drop in with salsa, too. Its really way to hot to eat plain, and I can handle some pretty hot stuff. Tobasco is just flavoring and no real spice as far as I’m concerned.

I also love Cholula, but if want a great flavor with spice but not very hot, Tiger Sauce is fantastic. It’s sweet and spicy with a little kick. Fantastic when you bake it on a pizza.

Big Daddy’s BBQ in Des Moines, Iowa is hands’down the best BBQ I’ve ever had, and he makes all his own hot sauces. In fact, every year Ike (Big Daddy himself) and his family takew the whole month of August to go to Jamaica and elsewhere to hand-select all the peppers that he uses to make his sauces.

The hot sauces are INCREDIBLY hot. And, the hotter they get, the les flavor they impart. You can buy any of the sauces online here:

Enjoy!

Sriracha sauce, known and loved by aficionados of southeast Asian cuisine, is quite good. It’s well and hot, but has a very savory, garlicky flavor. It’s not vinegary at all, unlike many western hot sauces, it’s cheap, and comes in giant squeeze bottles as well. It seems to be better as a condiment than as an ingredient in cooking.

Well since you don’t want flavor, I’ll third(fourth?) the recommend on Dave’s Insanity Sauce. It’s really, really good. If anyone reading this likes really hot sauce that does have some flavor, I recommend Da Bomb: Ground Zero Sauce. It’s even hotter than Dave’s, but is flavored with Pineapple, Lemon and Lime. It’s incredible.

I"m not sure if it’s the vinegar that turns me off of Tabasco. I love vinegar.

I even dip fries in it.

Thanks for all the advice, I’ll give the Dave’s sauce a try.

Crystal Hot Sauce (Louisiana’s Pure) is vastly superior to the famous tabasco. Someone on the board here recommended it (maybe Zenster), and I go some in New Orleans last summer. Had many an opportunity in New Orleans to do a taste comparision, and my wife, myself and a whole bunch of buddies all were of the opinion that Crystal was vastly superior.

I brought back a couple of bottles and don’t know what to do when they run out. Tabasco is available in China but I’ve never seen Crystal in Asia.
