Recommend a lawn care service in N.Va.?

Northern Virginia

My teeny tiny lawn is an absolute disaster. Every time I think I have a minute to deal with it, it rains. I’m currently unwell and not able to handle it. I think I’m going to have to cave in and call someone in before the board issues a citation.

Can anyone recommend a lawn care service? Nothing fancy – cutting (err … embarrassingly tall) grass, trimming hedges, and pulling out a small tree that somehow has grown where it shouldn’t.

Ideally, I’d like to get it done today, while I’m here.

I use Meadows Farms. Not the cheapest, but I have the nicest-looking lawn on the street and I do virtually nothing to it myself. I recommend them highly.

There’s a Mexican guy here who drives around and leaves business cards when he spies a potential customer. My life is incredibly busy, and my yard shows it. I hit a stump with my first lawnmower, and bent the crankshaft. I found a different stump with my second one. My third one won’t start. Last week he and his guy mowed the lawns. Tuesday I came home from work to find that he’d gotten rid of some shrubbery I’d mentioned I’d like gone. Yesterday he put down redwood chips where he took the shrubbery out, and around the bushes and trees along the front fence. AND – this surprised me – they’d removed a stump I’ve been tripping over since I bought the house. (It was in the middle of where the plants were, and was often covered by them.)

This guy has been around at least two years, and he’s thorough and reliable. Prices are OK, too. How about keeping an eye open for independent landscapers in your area? If their work looks good you can find out about their rates.
