That’s funny, I’ve never received any spam and the only animation I’ve seen is that posted by other users.
Do you pay for it? I constantly get bombarded with animated ads for their “Nitro” paid subscription, along with requests for donations to “boost” the servers I’m on, whatever that means. These aren’t things the server operators set up, it’s just the default ads the software comes with (it’s how they make money).
And their threading system is pretty terrible too. I’m part of a few busy servers, and it’s impossible to find anything more than a couple hours old.
If that’s all you need, how about Reddit? You can control who can see or participate in your sub.
I’m in a group that uses various social media. Reddit is great for topic-based threads. It has private messaging, etc.
We use Discord for other reasons. You can define “channels” for whatever topics you choose. It also has voice and video group chats, private messaging, etc. But you said you don’t need those features.
In both of those platforms you can control who participates, what they’re allowed to do, etc.
[edit] Although you say you don’t need voice, etc… Using Discord would let you consolidate everything under the same platform, which might be useful.
