Soliciting opinions! My contract with T-Mobile will be up soon and I’m trying to decide if I should stick with my plan and Sidekick 3.
Pros:
Transflective screen uses little power and is readable in all lighting.
Flat-rate unlimited data plan for $30/month.
QWERTY keyboard with separate number keys.
Long battery life, about 1.5 days of regular use.
Trackball!
Displays most websites well enough to use.
Does Javascript, mostly.
Fairly sturdy.
EDGE network is faster than the old Sidekick, fairly wide coverage.
Cons:
Screen is kind of low-res.
Hard plastic keys not nearly as good as the rubber ones on the original.
EDGE network is not very fast.
Not huge, but kind of big to put in your pocket with car keys.
Javascript can slow things down tremendously and doesnt work in every page.
Can’t really use certain websites-googlemaps, zagat, most travel sites.
Can’t view pdf files.
No Wifi, but that wouldn’t really matter where I live/travel.
I never use it as a phone, camera, organizer, music player, messaging, social networking. I’m agnostic on Windows CE, it seems OK, but doesn’t add any functions I really want, plus I imagine boot times would be long. This device is really only for mobile web surfing/general distraction, I have a mobile phone and Blackberry for work. Are there alternatives I should look at or should I stick with what I have? Thanks.
