I’ve done a lot of those rides, and I never carried more then the worm type plugs. I know plenty of people who have had flats on such rides and used the simple repair kits and finished the life of the tire on them.

Thanks, all. I’ve got the kit ordered and it should arrive in a day or two. This will be a good test. I’m in the SF Bay Area now so I’m close to plenty of places that can help, if I need it. I want to test this to see if I can do a similar fix when miles from anyone / anywhere.
FYI some of the Iron Butt riders say they’ve done this plenty of times, and that, together with your inputs here give me confidence that this should hopefully go well.
