Recommend a tube amp...

A bit of research on Reverb.com, Gbase, and eBay may serve you well. I think they have value, but not sure how condition figures in. It normally doesn’t take much to get a simple tube amp working.

Pork Rind - you mentioned the key part: fiddling with the knob on your guitar. My standard Tele rock rhythm setting is a crunchy tone (I use a dirtbox through my Tweed Deluxe replica), bridge pickup with my volume on 7 and Tone on maybe 6. Use the middle position for Stonesier stuff.

One more to possibly consider is Genz-Benz. I have a Black Pearl 30 running though a GB 2x12 cab. Great cleans, and throwing it into triode mode with a Boss distortion pedal gives me down and dirty. More volume than I know what to with. Please give the Mack some serious consideration, they are handmade and sound phenomenal, especially when you consider what a handmade boutique amp typically runs. Mack youtube clip.

Hadn’t heard of Mack, but the video looks interesting. Good features. Uses 6V6’s so will overdrive sooner than a 6L6 or EL84 based power stage, but to me that is a good thing!

Note: the guy on the left is playing a Dagmar, a cool handmade guitar with rounded edges all the way around.

Heh, if I could bring myself to pick it up off the floor, I’d buy it from you. However, those beasts are for people with roadies. 300 watts, 80lbs

However, folks with roadies love them, and they still sell for fairly good money. Most 70’s SVTs go for 1-2K in working condition.

Mack’s Website. I’m trying to justify my GAS for a Gem 2G. They’re out of stock right now, but… With the exchange rate right now they are a pretty good deal if you’re in the US.

Bump. Stratocaster, did you finally break down and buy anything? Inquiring minds, etc.
