Recommend a video editor for my phone

I just upgraded my Samsung mobile and in doing so, something weird has happened.

I used to have an internal video editor for videos that I shot or uploaded or were shared with me. In the past, if I wanted to cut these down, I could do so within the Gallery on my phone. This would, as one might expect, reduce the file size of the video because it was now shorter.

Now, however, the exact opposite happens. If I have a video and I try to use the video editor in the Gallery, the new video will actually take up more space than the old one did, even if I reduce the size significantly (say into a third or a quarter of the original’s length). I have no idea why it’s doing this, but it is consistent with every video I try this one, no matter the source.

Please note: When I “save” the new version of the video, it always asks if I want to save it in SD or HD, and I always pick SD (which I’m assuming means Standard Definition, vs. High).

So I guess my question is–is there a video editor app that won’t do this? Something I can download as a separate platform to edit videos so the shorter videos will also take up less memory, too? I’m guessing the editing functions in my Gallery are fixed and not subject to change, so I don’t see that as a likely route for a solution (though if you have suggestions along that end, feel free to share).

Also please note: This is strictly for my phone. For all intents and purposes, I don’t have a laptop or home computer, so this app has to be phone-based (since any video I share on social media or save in my gallery or on the cloud will originate from my phone anyway).

Thanks!

If all you are doing is trimming videos and not doing complex editing, this will likely suit your needs.

Also (just noticed this part of your post) if you are saving in SD and the original is HD, then you are re-encoding it, possibly using a less efficient codec ir codec settings. If the original is HD, save the clip as HD–you want to trim only.
