I’m thinking of changing from aol to another provider…I just don’t know which one to choose. I signed up with Earthlink but, I don’t a whole lot for it. What do you think I should do?
What are you looking for? Dialup or high-speed? Dialup with the potential to move to high-speed? Do you want something like AOL’s controlled content or do you want something more “advanced”? Or do you just want to get connected to the Net and that’s it? Is service and support important to you or can you troubleshoot your own problems? Is cost a major factor?
Personally, I’ve used EarthLink DSL and dialup for four years and never had a problem with it.
I need more than 1 mail box, something simple, right now I have dial up but, would like the option of something faster later. I just need it to check email and then would use Explorer to surf. The cheaper the better but, I’d pay more for quality. Know what I mean?
I’m guessing that’s a zipcode in your location and that that you are in the California. FWIW I have been with Bellsouth DSL for almost 3 years now and I have no complaints.

Earthlink is a good bet as long as you don’t attempt customer service over a land line but there are so many providers these days that can basically do whatever you want why don’t you just play the field for a while? Depending on where you are Ma Bell also offers good service.
AOL sux big time. Just getting away from those bastards is a step in the right direction. They are the anti-christ.
Xash…
I was not aware posting similar questions in two DIFFERENT forums is not appreciated. That’s a stoopid rule, I might add. I wanted OPINION and FACT, if possible.
Whatever else you do, just get rid of AOL pronto. You may want to check out Juno for low-price (I think it’s 9.95/month). I have Earthlink right now and like it except for the fact that they won’t respond to my questions about how to get my real name off of my emails.
I think Earthlink is OK. One good thing about Earthlink is when I travel around the US they always have a local pop for me to dial into. I also have Verizon DSL at home. Love it!!! It’s VERY reliable and fast as they come. I don’t know about Verizon’s support, never had to use it. I did have to use Earthlink support a couple times when I first signed up (more for dummy-me stuff than their problems), they were VERY helpful and ALWAYS available (and that’s a big plus).
neisha, your other question did not constitute a question that had a factual answer, for reasons outlined in my post in that thread.
If, in the future, you are unsure of where a question should go, or would like clarification on where to post a question that requires both opinion and fact in its answers, feel free to email the mods or post a question in ATMB asking for clarification.
Thank you for your cooperation.

We’ve used AT&T for years (our login in my last name, with no numbers or anything - that’s how early we were ) and I’ve had no complaints. I also can find local numbers just about anywhere when I travel. They are now offering DSL which allows you to keep your login name if you upgrade - you might be able to check if it is offered in your area. (It’s not in mine, alas.)
