Recommend Good Dim Sum in NYC

I’m going into NYC on Wednesday with my bestest friend to see the Tut Exhibit. While there, we thought we’d hit Chinatown for Dim Sum. On the web, we’ve found a restaurant that looks good called Jing Fong, but I was wondering if any of the native Dopers have recommendations.

Thanks!

A lot of people like Golden Unicorn (Dim sum palace atmosphere) and Joe’s Shanghai (for the soup dumplings), although I’ve never been to either.

I go to Jade Asian in Flushing, but that’s a hell of a schlep for a non-New Yorker. You take the 7-train to Flushing- Main St, the last stop, and walk from there, a couple blocks.

I haven’t been to Chinatown in years, but my family swears by Dim Sum Go Go, though I’ve never gone.

Well, of course Jade Asian in Flushing is great. My problem is that I don’t know the actual name of my favorite dim sum joint. You go down Elizabeth street from Canal, and it’s about 100 yards down on the left.

Is it Penang?

My fave dim sum joint is in the exterior of the elbow of Doyers street. Don’t know the name, never spoke a word to anyone who works there, never even saw a menu, just pointed at the tray of dumplings when they came around.

I do believe it is Penang. It’s got these kick-ass ice-fruit drinks, too.

Penang is a Malaysian restaurant. I don’t think they have dim sum.

My wife confirms Golden Unicorn (18 E Broadway) and Joe’s Shanghai (9 Pell) are both good and popular. Her favorite is Ping’s Seafood (22 Mott St).

In that case, maybe a little further down. I think it’s on a corner.

It looks like Penang. I dunno.

After examining Google Maps: What the hell? There was a Police Precinct there and now it’s gone. What happened? And those two subterranian malls that used to have the best anime bootlegs are gone, and that store up where the import video games are is gone too. Either I’m on completely the wrong street or there’s been a lot of construction.
