Recommend great B&B near Chicago

I am looking to find a nice Bed & Breakfast for a romantic getaway in the near (before spring) future and was wondering if any Dopers had any good recommendations for one.

Requirements

  • No more than 200 miles from Chicago (give or take)

  • Food cooked on premises…preferrably very good food

  • Something to do not too far away (shopping [not Walmart], dining, bars, hiking, etc.) It is quite possible we will never leave the B&B at all but good to have options.

  • Attractive rooms. B&B feel and not someone’s spare bedroom or shack in their back yard. Basically the B&B should be in business as a serious B&B more akin to a hotel than as an after thought of someone thinking what to do with some spare space.

What about Kohler, WI? Not exactly a B&B, but it fits your other criteria, and I’ve heard nothing but good things about The American Club.

Door County, WI is also good, but a bit farther than you were thinking and I’m thinking it’s probably not that great this time of year. Same for Mackinac Island.

The American Club is a great idea. I keep forgetting about that place. Not sure it has the same romantic level as a nice B&B but could be more fun with more to do. I’ll definitely keep it in mind.
