I also highly recommend the Ruger 10-.22 - great rifle.
I do have a 50 round mag for it which has never jammed.
The Ruger 10 round rotary magazine is great though isn’t it? 10 rounds and it stays “in line” with the stock - no protruding. Sleek, reliable, inexpensive, accurate - well I’m sure you all know that.
I’ve got a Ruger 10/22. It’s about 20 years old. I don’t think it’s ever jammed.
Many moons ago I had a Marlin 995 - sweet little rifle that never gave me a problem.
If you ever look at bolt-actions the BRNO Model 2 is superb.
Kim du Toit has posted lots of info on his weblog. It can be a bit buried, though.
IMHO,
If you want to work on it buy a 10/22, if not buy a Thompson/Center .22LR Classic www.tcarms.com it fits the bill perfectly and is the most accurate .22 rifle out of the box that I have ever seen $300.00 at your local dealer.
I love mine, check out www.rimfirecentral.com for all the advice you need/want

Marlin Model 60. Accurate as hell right out of the box; supposedly one of the best selling autoloaders ever.
