Recommend me a Kinky book

I am actually going to start reading fiction!
I see one of my fave people, Kinky Friedman ahs a few books out there.
Which to start with first?
Which is the best?

I’ve only read Meanwhile Back at the Ranch, so I can’t say which is best. It was an entertaining book, but I don’t think he’ll win any prestigious awards for his mystery novels.

He is, however, one of my quirky favorites.

I’ve read and enjoyed all of them.
I would suggest reading them in chronological order, as many of the characters are recurring and references are often made to past cases. It’s easier to keep things straight (if that term is applicable in Kinky’s case) reading them in order.
Anyway, you can’t go wrong with whichever one you pick up.

If you like Kinky Freidman’s writing, you should check out Carl Hiaasen . It’s a bit more, um…, mature than Kinky. Satire. You will learn a lot about the blue-tongued mango vole.

I’ve only read one of the Kinkster’s books so far, Armadillos And Old Lace. It was okay, but hasn’t inspired me to read any of the others yet, so I wouldn’t start there.

Have you tried “The Karma Sutra”?

(silent pause)

oh… you mean…

never mind.

Carry on.

I haven’t read all of his books, but quite a few of them. A Case of Lone Star and Greenich Killing Time got me hooked on the Kinkster.

All of them. Blast From the Past is good, as it gives you some insight into Kinky’s past.

Also, listen to a few of his CDS. Old Revelations and New Testaments is wonderful. And if you think he’s only into satire and silliness, listen to “Ride Em Jewboy,” remembering it’s a song about the Holocaust.

I can’t wait to read Kinky’s next tome, to see what he has to say about 9/11 (and Andrew Vachss and Ed McBain).
