My 4 GB SimpleTech SimpleDrive Mini USB drive has died. There are a few data sets on the thing which I would like to recover. Googling around brings me many different software packages which are meant to recover data from failed thumb drives. The manufacturer’s site was not much help.
Can anyone recommend a particular software? I realize that it may be impossible to actually salvage anything.
Symptoms: Computer recognizes the drive, fails to install, cannot read or list in explorer. USB drive making a tiny grinding noise.
Also, I’m not sure if this is a true “thumb drive” - the user guide calls it a “portable mini usb drive”.
