Recommend me an e-mail list thingy

I play poker with a bunch of guys every month or so. We notify each other of the coming games and RSVP by e-mail, of course. But e-mail addresses change, people forget to hit “Respond to all,” or don’t update their internal e-mail lists. So it ends up that people are inadertently left off the invite list, or not everyone finds out what’s going on.

Rather than try to impose discipline on these guys (the expression “herding cats” comes to mind), it seems that some kind of online service might help. A quick look at Evite suggests that it’s not exactly the thing (although I could be wrong about that). Can you recommend something that will:

  1. Maintain a list of e-mail addresses,
  2. Help us manage our private correspondence about the games,
  3. Be easy to use,
  4. Be free, and
  5. Free of advertising.

Thanks.

Yahoo groups? I get email from three or four groups through there, but have never set one up.

I use loads of Yahoo groups, as a subscriber, moderator and owner.

It meets all your criteria except that it is not 100% free of advertising - if you read the messages online (rather than in your e-mail) you will have to click through periodic ads.

Overall I’m quite happy with it.

I’ve heard that Evite is a good way to distribute your friends’ e-mail addresses to spammers - is this true?
