Anbody have a pair of noise canceling headphones they can recommend? I would use these mostly for plane and car noise.
I used to travel a lot, and I had considered getting the Bose noise reduction headphones. A coworker of mine had a pair and liked them so much that when he lost them (accidentaly left them on a seat in the airport), he shelled out another $300 to buy another pair. I think most people would agree that they are hands down the best ones.
However, I ended up getting a pair of Aiwa noise reduction headphones (I dont know the model number) at Best Buy for $50-60. They don’t cup around your ears like the Bose ones do, and they’re range of noise cancellation isn’t as broad, so they’re definately not as effective, but they they still make a big difference. I used to have to blast the sound when watching a DVD on the plane, but with the Aiwa’s I can keep the volume at a more reasonable level.
My thinking was that for $50-60, it was worth it to give them a try, and if they were more than 1/5 as effective as the Bose ones ($300/60), then I didn’t necessarily lose out. I feel as though I certainly got my money’s worth.
I have the Bose Quietcomfort 2. They work great. One of the benefits is that I can actually hear people talking better with them on while on a plane than if they are off.
