Recommend some music similar to the Jeeves & Wooster theme

So I’ve been watching the BBC series Jeeves and Wooster lately, with Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie, and I love the theme music, which surprises me. I generally find I really don’t like jazz very much, but this song is just so damn catchy. And it doesn’t really sound like what I think of when I think of “jazz.” I wonder if it’s a time period thing - the theme really seems to fit the era in my mind. So I’m kind of interested in getting ahold of some “real” music that has sort of the same sound.

Anyway, fill in the blank: If you like the Jeeves & Wooster theme, you’d also like _______.

Sadly I cannot help, but I wondered if you’d mind awfully, Smeggers old chap, if I sort of hopped onto the back of your thread to add that I’m rather intrigued by the piano music Peter plays in Family Guy in the episode where he learns he’s good at the piano when he’s drunk. He plays all sorts of popular tunes in a spellbindingly beautiful way, not least the X-Files, and I’d really like to know… ah, excuse me, there’s a policeman over there and no-one’s knocked his hat off yet…

Just popped back in to advise that Anne Dudley apparently did the music. Pip pip.

… um, to Jeeves I mean.

Try Dmitri Shostakovich’s Jazz Suites. Also Kurt Weill’s music from The Threepenny Opera (Die Dreigroschenoper).

I really like the Shostakovich’s Jazz Suites (#2 in particular), but they are serious-minded works that really are not very jazzy.

I would think Benny Goodman’s music, especially Sing Sing Sing would be in the same spirit as the Jeeves and Wooster theme.

I’ve been trying. Tried rag time. No luck. Too much piano. Searched “violin jazz music up beat” on YouTube and got closer.

This starts off pretty jeevesy

This might have violin and muted trumpet which could be part of the Jeeves and Wooster secret sauce:

And:

It seems like ragtime to me. Joplin. The Entertainer so trite now but the same kind of music.

I play this CD a lot.

EDIT: I didn’t notice this was a zombie thread.

The term that Youtube suggested to me is “gypsy jazz”. Some of the results for that search seemed vaguely similar.

Thanks Alexmusic5 for finding those!
