What I want to hear are basically guitar-driven instrumental albums. Don’t want to hear no singin’.
I love Joe Satriani. I love Jeff Beck’s Blow by Blow. Steve Vai has his moments… I need some stuff in that vane.
Any ideas?

The Shut up 'n Play yer Guitar series by Zappa
Al Dimeola
John McLaughlin
Mostly 70’s and 80’s stuff, if that’s OK
Yngwie Malmsteen’s Concerto Suite. Full orchestra with an electric guitar thrown in just for fun.
Monte Montgomery’s cover of Hendrix’s “Little Wing.”
Video clips of it can be found here.
If you like his guitar work, check out the albums “Mirror” and “First and Repair” - avoid “Wishing Well” and “Live at the Caravan of Dreams” (that one was made against his wishes) - any live bootlegs you can find are well worth it too.
I haven’t laid hands on any of his albums yet, but what I’ve heard of Eric Johnson (on the radio) is quite good.
From what Yahoo says, it sounds as though his albums aren’t purely instrumental, but his best songs are. He won a Grammy for Cliffs of Dover (click the song name on the “Tracks” list for a sample). And according to that biography page, he’s co-headlined a tour with Satriani and Vai.
My cousin is a fan a Buckethead and I have read others around here give him good reviews. I can’t really say for myself. I keep meaning to borrow one of his CDs.
I just did a quick search and came up with 10 hits here on SD over the last 6 months with “Buckethead” (three seemed unrelated). Check them out if you are interested in him. FYI, Buckethead was a gutiarits on stage with Axl Rose during the MTV Awards (yeah, the guy with the bucket on his head).
Supposably, his identity is a secret and he has created a history of how Buckethead myth came to existence.
Jeff Beck’s There & Back is also good.
