Recommend some scary movies

“It”, based on a Stephen King book.

Watch Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby.

Then watch his movie The Tenant. It’s a great horror film on its own, but the experience is improved if you’ve seen the first film. The final scene is the most chilling in film.

Can you spoil it? What’s the final scene?!?!

It never really got the plaudits that some of John Carpenter’s other movies did, but there are parts of Prince of Darkness that are creepy as fuck. It is a bit gory in other parts though.

Descent is about as scary as I want to get. I’ve seen a lot of horror films, but this one, with people lost in caves and creepy creatures after them is all-lights-on, use-the-pause-button-often scary as hell.

30 Days of Night: Probably the best vampire movie ever. Truly frightening makeup, and great action, not to mention good acting. Don’t bother with the sequel, however.

And what was that movie that took place in the 1800s with the soldiers at a fort and flesh eaters?

Def by Temptation
Fraility. Not much supernatural here, but it’s offbeat and not gory.
The Innocents
the original 13 Ghosts

Blue Velvet has some tense, scary moments- like when Jeffery misses the horn honk warning, and his various run ins with Frank.

I think that was** Ravenous**. Ravenous (1999) - IMDb

Saw [rec] 2 last night. Even creepier than the original, with a more supernatural bent.

The Wikipedia entry gives the whole plot from start to finish.

I can’t stand watching horror movies myself, but the ideas and plots in them are some of the trippiest and most interesting I’ve ever seen in fiction. I find it fascinating to read ABOUT horror movies without actually watching them.

That was just called “The Haunting” in the UK, and I remember watching it when I was about ten. I was lucky (?) in that I had parents who didn’t care how much TV I watched or how late I stayed up, and had a mother who liked horror films. I was used to Hammer films and old RKO horror films, but then I watched “The Haunting” one night, and I swear I didn;t sleep for a week.
I still love it. Only trouble is, I’ve watched it too often now, and know what’s coming.
But save for a few moustachioed 1960s anachronisms, it’s still a killer, esp if you’ve never seen it before.

Is there a reason no-one has mentioned The Exoricst? Sure it’s old, but, wow, it is chillingly scary at points.

That’s the one! Well acted and suitably creepy.

Just watched Triangle the other night (from Netflix). I agree, it’s well worth watching.
I second what someone said earlier about Dream House. It’s terrible.

Idiocracy, because you can see evidence of it happening today all around you…

Brought to you by Carl’s Jr.

Saw this on pay-per-view last night.

It definitely had some genuine scares in it. Some decent effects.

Harry Potter doesn’t seem like that much of an actor, though. That, or the director was reining him in too much.

But the GF and I were talking about the toys in the house. Were these real, turn-of-the-century toys? Or is there company that makes deliberately creepy toys for horror films? If my mother had given me toys like that when I was a child, I would have beaten them to death with a rock and buried them in the back yard.

Session 9 is one of the better efforts from the last several years. Even David Caruso’s presence doesn’t manage to muck it up. The atmosphere that movie creates is what many UrbExers spend a lot of time trying to find in real life and lying about on their blogs. I unequivocally recommend.

I’ll second “Poltergeist” and “Wolf Creek”.

For the second one I thought someone had spoilt a big horrific “reveal” by them saying to me “watch out for the head on a stick scene”.
So I did watch out for it, naturally I was expecting one thing and…well…I was so very wrong. What actually happened was far, far worse. (and I promise I haven’t spoilt it for you by using that phrase)

I think I’m the first to say “Alien”. Set in space yes, featuring an Alien yes, but at heart a classic “horror” movie.

Just to be clear…I would beaten* the toys*, not Mom and Dad.

Most of my faves have already been mentioned…

*Alien
Wolf Creek *(Haven’t seen it, but heard about it and can’t wait!)
Blair Witch (the first one, not the sequel, which despite Geoff Donovan, is silly).
The Changeling
Ghost Story
. Many good actors telling a great story.

My addition: The Thing (Carpenter’s 1982 remake). I like to put this on when friends say they don’t get scared at horror movies. They **always **jump at that the same scene. And if you’ve seen it, you know which one it is.

Reading the trivia for this on the IMDb, it says that all the toys were original.
