I find this kind of scary story quite evocative in a way. Some things that come to mind . . .
Robert Bloch’s story “Notebook Found in a Deserted House.”
Lost: the Dharma Initiative videos shown in the early seasons, when you still didn’t know what happened to them.
This thing from the video game Half Life 2. Never played it, and now I definitely don’t want to, thanks.
The Dwarf journal the Fellowship found in Moria in LoTR.
Star Trek TNG: “Booby Trap” and recordings made by the captain of an alien ship.
Other examples?
The 1950 film noir “D.O.A.” about a dying man who tries to find out who poisoned him and why. It is in the public domain so you can find it easily.
Parts of the multi-layered book House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski involve writings by someone who is doomed, seemingly pursued by mysterious forces or beings as they become involved in researching the mystery of the titular house. One even warns the reader against continuing to read!

The Last Broadcast and The Blair Witch Project come to mind.
Also, the trailer for John Carpenter’s The Thing uses that device, beginning with a lonesome, static-y voice calling for help on the radio.
