I am looking for recommendations.
Stephen Covey’s legendary 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - I call it “well-packaged common sense at $10.95 a copy” - lays out basic habits (duh) that work regardless of where you apply them. You can be in your personal, professional, relationship or even spiritual life and see that “Begin with the end in mind” or “Focus on what’s Important but Not Urgent” can be helpful, you know? You may think all of Covey’s trappings are a scam, but the basic content is solid.
Okay, with that as context, here is my question: Are there any sources that focus more on how you should manage your mind and mindset as you focus to achieve goals? Covey’s “Begin with the end in mind” is basically “set an objective” - a smart tactic. His “Focus on what’s important but not urgent” = “keep time budgeted for your long-term priorities” - again, a smart tactic.
But what about “condition your mind to be open and embrace paradox” or “ensure you are truly paying attention to what is unfolding in front of you” - these are also smart pieces of advice, which can apply in your personal, professional, relationship and spiritual lives, but not the same type of Covey tactical common sense.
If I wanted to know what was out there that spoke to this type of “mindset common sense” - where would you point me?
Thank you in advance.
ETA: I should say that I know about books like The Power of Positive Thinking and the work of Martin Seligmann. Interesting stuff - and, sure, fostering an appropriate balance of Optimism is important in one’s life. But, to my mind, that is more about living a happier life - I am focused on managing one’s mindset while trying to, I guess to use Covey’s term, “be Effective” - i.e., pursuing goals and objectives across various parts of your life…
