I’m in search of a sound machine. I have downloaded an app, and I have a machine. I’m not satisfied with either, as I want something other than white noise.
I’d like zen music or something meditative. I don’t need fan noises, rain of any kind, or music in general. I can’t seem to find what I’m after. I’d probably be okay with pricing at the higher end if I knew it had what I’m after. Thanks!
You might like some of the selections from Sleepjar.
I use ‘white noise’ every night. I have a Dohm brand plug in machine that I use at home, just an adjustable fan noise generator like many therapists use to ensure privacy.
When I travel I use one of several ‘white noise’ apps on my phone to provide customized sound-pink noise or brown noise being my current favorites. I plug my iPhone into its charger so in the morning it’s fully charged after playing sleep sounds all night.
My favorite apps are Calm, which I was gifted a subscription to. It has everything, music, meditations, sleep stories, pod casts, etc.
The free app that I’ve used for years is from the iPhone App Store and is called White Noise. It actually has the full range of noise colors, plus other sounds to choose from.
I’d be looking for an app or soundtracks for my phone, not a whole new machine.
Would this affect battery usage?
Yes. Turn the video off, if any.
It will use lots of wifi data so down load for playback.
Use a timer.
Don’t sleep with it under your pillow while charging. It gets too warm.
I usually charge my phone overnight, so it wouldn’t for me.
I’m impressed with their selection and just the variety I’ve been looking for. I downloaded it and used the chanting sound last night. Thank you again
I use the Rain Rain app on my phone. It has loads of sounds besides rain. Brown, Blue, Green, White, and Pink are available but are Premium sounds at $6.00/month. I don’t pay for any premium sounds. I love the rain and thunderstorm options.
I blearily came awake yesterday morning to a noise that sounded like a combination of tropical fish jumping out of the aquarium and someone walking noisily over the attic floorboards.
It was our spaniel Pluto, throwing up the chunks of carrot that I gave him for breakfast the preceding day as a treat.
Probably not the best sound with which to go to sleep, but not a half bad alarm clock.
One of the sleep app developers tried to sell that exact effect, but the narrow-minded corporate types rejected it.
The fans work very well for me; here’s a YouTube review of 7 different brands. There’s something very soothing about noise that is mechanically generated, no electronics at all, and best of all, no app to fuss with (the machines have real fans inside). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3txlINb6voY
I now own 4 and plan to get more. I suffer from barking dogs on all sides of the property, and these babies have saved my sanity. The somewhat high pitch of the white noise seems to be perfect for masking little yappy dogs.
