I live in a 4,000 sq ft two story house. Need wireless modem recommendations that is Comcast/Xfinity certified, will provide good wireless throughout the house, support up to 10 wireless devices at once, 200 mbps download speeds, etc.
I think you will need to look for two devices. A DOCSIS modem compatible with Comcast and a WiFi router. All the cool kids these days are using mesh routers to get good coverage in large homes.
I echo jasg. What all the cool kids are doing is they get themselves a motorola DOCSIS 3 modem/router. Then they get themselves one or several Ubiquiti wifi access points, powered by PoE. What you do then is put the wifi access point up high on the ceiling - ideally upstairs if you can figure out how to get the cable up there - connected by power injected ethernet to wherever the modem is.
Ubiquiti is apparently the ‘cool kid’ brand, offering the highest quality and reliability at the moment. You can even go so far as to use their router - they sell it separately from the access points, another $50.
Another, lazier approach is to buy3 Google wifi access points. Those use mesh networks, so you’d connect one to your modem and 2 more at different places in the house. Very low effort to setup, though fairly expensive (about $200 for a 3-pack)
You might notice that both products I am recommending are ranging in price for $80 to $260. Why not buy a $10 generic brand wifi-access point and call it good? You can do that, especially if you love your network failing periodically where you have to power cycle…
I’ll second Ubiquiti. I’m using the cable company supplied modem since my provider requires it and has a $0 rental, but it is running in bridge mode with a Ubiquiti USG router and 2 AC Lite APs that give me great coverage in a 3500 sq ft house (3 floors plus basement). You can also spring for the AC pro for a faster radio for a few bucks more.
