A while ago, fishbicycle posted to a thread here (started by Fenris, IIRC) about techniques for recording LPs to CD using a PC. As I’ve started collecting some B-sides available only on vinyl, I’m now particularly interested… but buggered if I can find that thread.
So I’ve got myself a new turntable, but I take it I need an amp, too. Would the quality of the amp or soundcard affect the end result much? Would Audacity be a suitable program to use?
Would recording audio cassettes be similar?
Any tips, or possibly a link to that thread, would really be appreciated.
I don’t recall the thread, but I have in my hand a column by Jim Coates, which mentions a thing called ADS InstantMusic - a box that has as input standard audio plugs, and has as output a USB connector, including software. I have lots of cassette tapes made 25 years ago from reel to reel tapes I’d like to save. I haven’t gotten around to buying this yet, but it sounds like something you’d be interested in.
Voyager, that device seems pretty nifty, but the reviews I’ve just read on Amazon seem quite mixed. Luckily, I don’t mind getting my hands a bit dirty when it comes to technical subjects (such as noise reduction and audio editing). Thanks for passing the information on, though.
from_a_to_z, that is exactly the thread I was thinking of. I guess I just assumed it was in CS. The cheque’s in the mail.
