I have a SportsArt c52r recumbent exercise bike. I’m looking to sell it. It’s pretty old but in good condition.
I looked around online and some (refurbished ones) are around $4,000 or more. And some are around $50. Anyone ever buy or sell or own one of these? What’s the deal?.
First see if the $50 guy will take $40.
We had a top end one, with a good brand name (some bike champion, I forget who). Cost us something like AUD3,500 new, IIRC.
We decided to get rid of it a few years later as we hardly used it. No takers at AUD2,000 , or at AUD 1,000, so we simply gave it away on Gumtree.
Anyone trying to sell their own equipment will be competing with people who just want to get the unused equipment out of their house. Those people will be pricing the equipment very cheap or even giving it away for free. Even places like thrift stores have stuff like bikes and rowers for under $50. Perhaps if you have a big name item, like a Peloton Bike, then you could get a good price for it. Some people are looking specifically for a Peloton and will pay a good price for it. But otherwise, people are just looking for a generic exercise bike.
It’s also a huge hassle buying exercise equipment online. People posting ads don’t do a very good job. You’ll have to sift through endless adds where they don’t give the brand, model, or even the specs. All you’ll have to go on is a bad cell phone pic of the bike and then go through endless back-and-forth communications to try to get the details and arrange to see it. And then when you look at it, you find out some stuff is broken. The cheap prices are the tradeoff for the huge amount of hassle it takes to buy something on Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace.
I doubt you could get very much for your bike. SportsArt is not a well-known brand. Basically, from the persective of the used market, you have a generic recumbent bike for sale. I might guess you could get a few hundred for it if you do a good job of posting the ad and are patient to wait for the right buyer. It would sell even quicker if you have a way to move it to help get it to the person’s house.
Some cities have stores specializing in selling used sporting goods & exercise gear. You might try to find such & stop by to see what dimilar items they have at what prices and what the staff thinks.
My bet is the previous post nailed it. What you own is a bike-shaped pile of scrap metal.
