Can I recycle an aluminum ladder? You know, take it to a recycling center & get the money for it. I have some old ones I dont need. I wondered if they take them for recycling? Any other weird stuff? What about a VW engine case, which is aluminum, too?
You want a scrap metal yard. Most recyling centers are set up for only “packaging” items. Stuff used and tossed on a regular basis.

Chief is right. Most of those recycle places take only beverage cans. I have even had them reject foil and the little sausage tins (both aluminum) as garbage. They did take some gutters once, after they made be cut them into 2’ lengths. But they only paid me a fraction of what they pay for cans.
My center is right around the corner from my house, easily walking distance with several bags. It is such a pain to do and really isn’t worth the trouble. Now I save them for the school kids on my street. They know if they don’t show on friday they hit the trash. (empty cans make great roach colonies here in the tropics)
I used to work for the disposal company… we would take all of it, but you would get anything for it. Like they said above, it would go to the scrap metal pile, or trash pile. Most places just take household recycle… aluminum cans, #1 and (I think)#2 plastic, and most glass. I’m unsure on the plastic though. Most places take it, but don’t recycle it. It just isn’t economically feasible for them to.
You’d be surprised what people do try to recycle though… I was helping the recycle guys out once, and someone put a snowmobile in the bin!
It’s aluminium

Well, we have sort of a Alcoa station here they have a huge bin you put all your crap in which weighs it & you get paid. How it can tell 1lbs of cans & liquids that fall from the cans from the weight of the bin [probably 200 lbs] is a mystery.
We also have, as required by law, a few regular recycling stations. One even bought old Levi pants.
I throw those one time use pie plates, casserole pans, etc. etc. in with my cans, as well as foil. I often wonder if they truly get recycled. I imagine they would. I rinse them pretty well. (Yes, I clean my garbage before throwing it away, recyclables, anyway.)

psycat90, youll probably throw a gut but since they cut our cans down from four 32 gal to one 32 gal can, my recycling station is the fireplace. Anything burnable goes in it. As you can imagine it makes quite a stink outside.
“aluminum” whupps “aluminium”'s sorry five-syllable ass on any search engine I’ve tried.
One of the news servics just ran an article that the EPA found that home trash burning is a major source of dioxins and other pollutants. The burn temperature is not high enough to keep toxic compoounds from forming.
ewwww, handy! i’m surprised you haven’t had the cops at your door for the stinky burning, especially in cali.
Here in PA, everybody burns there trash. I personally don’t get it. And I’m just guessing here, but I hear those damn fire trucks a couple times a day almost. No doubt related to the backyard ‘incinerators’(sp?)
Is it really so hard to just throw it in a different bag? I mean you gotta throw it away anyway.

A lot of people put their yard stuff in the yard & burn it. You need a permit for that here.
Mostly I burn boxes that things come in. But hey not all the time every day.
I put a computer keyboard in once, couple months back. It got so hot that the sofa next to it was about to catch flambe, so I put it out. I learned from that.
lordy, in phoenix you would have both the fire department & the cops banging on your door if you tried it. no such thing as a permit. can’t even burn leaves outside. hefty fine, too.
For example, do not put your sofa next to a bonfire…
Why not have a yardsale or donate to Goodwill and claim it as a charitable gift on your taxes?
Don’t mean to throw the thread off track, but everytime I see your screen name, handy, I think of the smurfs. I picture a big blue handy smurf tralalaing on a keyboard. Just so ya know
