My MIL and SIL and family live in Florida and I can’t bring myself to visit them. It’s an extremely unappealing state. I don’t understand why they’re staying. My sister in law is a married lesbian with a kid on the way. All that fear and uncertainty is worth nice weather in the Winter? Just wait till the flooding starts.
I don’t think we can keep carrying red America, they are too backwards. We will not be able to compete in the 21sr century with the developed world.
You cut off your family because of where they live?
Fear and uncertainy about what? Hurricaines, or abortion laws?
And for either of those reasons, a short visit shouldn’t be a problem.
Unless you’re black.
It’s not like I never see them. They come up periodically for big family events since most of their family lives here. Adding to that, I’m not ready to put my kid on a plane.
Another article, specifically about Idaho, with numbers:
I don’t mean to speak for @Spice_Weasel, but there is a hell of a lot to fear in Florida if you’re not a white, hetero Christian. There are a few friends I left behind there that I’d really like to see. They know it will be incumbent upon them to come to me, as I will not spend another cent in that befucked state.
I lived there for 30 years, always wanting to leave and never being able to afford it. That asshole DeSantis and the idiots that voted for him made it an easy choice. I gave up a house, which I will probably never be able to replace and spent untold thousands to relocate to SoCal. People absolutely move for political reasons and a friend of mind is leaving her job of 30 years to relocate to the west coast. It really is that awful if politics is even a little bit important to you.
DeSantis and his stupidity is simply invisible in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties where I hang out. Are the rednecks out in the boonies all fired up on hate & stupidity? you bet, but who cares? They’re not who brings the money that makes the state go.
I’m glad to hear the insanity hasn’t contaminated your area yet, however Tampa Bay is hardly the boonies and it is most definitely an area whose money makes the state go.
