I just got a new phone. After I transferred everything from the old phone, I tried opening the Reddit app but I could not get it to open. So I deleted it with the intention of re-installing.
However, when I got to the app store and found the Reddit app, there is no option to download, only to “open”.
I cannot figure this out, unless, for some reason, they decided to discontinue the app.
I don’t want to have to search for the app in the app store every time I want to go onto Reddit.
I don’t have the reddit app, but any time I go to a reddit page my phone nags me about installing it. Have you tried that? Just go to reddit from the browser and see if you get the nag screen about installing (or using) the app.
What that sounds like is a botched installation followed by a botched uninstallation that didn’t get rid of it all.
Since the phone is new, and you presumably haven’t done much with it, I’d consider factory resetting it—assuming you still have your old phone and can transfer that stuff again.
If possible, I might also try installing the Reddit app first, and only then “transferring everything.”
Are you sure it’s not just a small app that’s quick to download, and it DID download, hence the option to open it? Have you tried hunting around to see if the icon is somewhere unexpected on your phone, or looking at the list of apps in settings to see if it’s there?
That means it’s on your phone. So you just don’t know what page the app is on? Have you tried using the search feature? Swipe down from the middle of the screen to bring up the search option. If you type Reddit and the app pops up, then it’s in your phone and you can open it. That’s how I use all my apps beyond what’s on the first page. I have no idea where they actually live, I just get to them by using the search. It’s way quicker.
I can totally understand OP’s frustration. I recently upgraded my phone for the first time in nearly ten years. It’s Android but I’ve been going through the same “Where is everything?!” pain. I jumped from v4 to v11 which is a pretty big gap and things are similar but different. Good luck moving into the new phone!
