Rednecks with screwed up priorities

I figure “white trash” isn’t racist because it is not trying to group all white people into the same category and make them less than other people of other colour skin. Same for redneck. I wasn’t aware that you couldn’t have a black redneck.

So is it cool if I differentiate between niggers and black people?

In an attempt to add information to the discussion…

Regarding Dale Earnhardt, he gave money to various charities, with the stipulation that he’d keep giving as long as they didn’t publicize the fact. After his death, some folks leaked the truth.

Sorry, no cite.

Ok, I was just gonna let this go but I have to break in here and say this is total bullshit, Dale was an asshole. There, I said it. He was grumpy and he charged little kids money for his signature. And this wasn’t infront of cameras or in Daytona or Atlanta or anything. This was right here in his (and my) hometown of Mooresville, NC, where no one would have been the wiser. And someone was saying what a great family man he was…Is that why he missed his son’s graduation and basically every event that was ever important to him because he was always busy with racing? He had enough money, he wasn’t out there racing to put food on the table, he was doing it because he loved it more than he loved his family.
I mean don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to flame the guy, I’m just saying he was human like the rest of us. I wish all these fucking rednecks would stop trying to deify him.

If “niggers” didn’t actually mean all black people, then probably. It would still be rude, mean and innapropriate if you used it in a derogatory way, but not racist, IMHO.

I hardly think their continuing to fly a flag shows less compassion for the NY & DC victims. American flags have been in short supply you know and this might have been all they had. If they fly an American flag upside down then you’ve got a reason to rant.

And not to wander but “great man” hardly describes Dale. He was a great driver, I understand that admiration, but he was an asshole and apparently sucked as a dad.

Well, it is used that way all the time. I think Chris Rock even had a big thing on one of his stand ups about this. In fact this is probably the most common way I hear the word nigger. FWIW I still think it is racist.

Because it’s a phrase used mostly by white people about other white people? I mean, maybe they’re all secretly self-loathing or something, but I doubt it . . .

If you want to argue that it’s bigoted, you can probably make a good argument. But racist? Nah.

Last time I checked, the OP was not about usage of derogatory terms. It attempted to address idiots (derogatory term alert!) whose priorities are seriously out of whack.

My $0.02:

  1. Few NASCAR fans give a damn about any other racing circuits. NASCAR seems to be a religion unto itself in parts of the South, and few devotees have even noticed that other sports exist, with the possible exception of football.

If they were really interested because of the RACING, then I’d have heard more sympathy for CART driver Brian Moore, a 23-year-old up and comer who died after hitting the wall near the end of the last race of last season. Nor have I heard a peep about Alex Zanardi – two-time CART champion who was in a terrible accident this past Saturday in Germany. Both of his legs have been amputated and he’s just now coming out of his coma. (www.cart.com for more info)

Where’s the love for my Indy car drivers? I’m don’t count on getting any compassion from NASCAR fans, most of whom are not even aware of Zanardi’s recent tragedy. And no, I will not be plastering my little Honda with Zanardi’s racing number any time soon. Yes he was one of my favorite drivers, but no, race car driver worship is not a priority in my life right now. Nor should it be for anyone else, IMHO.

  1. Bubba thinks this New War is a football game. (Or a NASCAR race.) Bubba thinks he is attending a 24/7 pep rally. To Bubba, the confederate flag reflects his/her own personal loyalties more accurately than the American flag. Bubbas love to put up a flag to see who else shares his/her loyalties.

Can we get off the semantics about the word redneck now? Hardly the point.

I must admit, it would be nice if we still had Dale around to fly honorary co-pilot in a B-1. That’d be a sight for any camel’s rear view mirror.

And Dogzilla, my nightmares would be of Zanardi’s wreck were the WTC not to have such a firm hold.

Anyway, I’ve got concerns enough with the events of the week without wondering if the guy a lane over is as PC in his patriotism as I.
