Redskins Fans: A Question

Our rookie RB, Cadillac Williams has been getting a lot of press because he’s broken Alan Ameche’s 50 year old record for yardage in the first three games of a player’s career. They list, in the local papers at least, Cadillac, then Ameche, then a couple of other famous guys, including Billy Sims and Ottis Anderson. But there is one name on the list that I have absolutely no recollection of.

**
Lionel Vital**, of the 1987 Redskins, is listed among the top rushers for the first three games of their careers. Then, apparently he disappears. Who was this guy? Whatever happened to him?

You asked the wrong fans… you should have asked Ravens fans.

He was a replacement player during the strike.

Ah, so he was really good against inferior players, then sucked against real competition and washed out? Also, the link indicated that he was drafted in 1986, but missed his rookie season because of injury, then cut and resigned during the strike. Should 1987 still count as a “rookie season” then?

I believe the record was described as “first three games of a player’s career”, so being cut or being on IR shouldn’t affect that.
