Reeeeeeeall classy, Arizona Radio Station.

Even if I weren’t a rabid Cards fan, this would upset me:

Radio DJ stoops to committing prank on Kile

Harrassing Darryl Kile’s window. Uttery, completely despicable. From an STLToday link, which didn’t paste properly on Preview so I used the ESPN one:

Oh, and BTW, while the station ackowledged that it was “in terribly bad taste,” they’re not even firing the guy.

Excuse me, but I think it was more than just “bad taste.” This poor woman is pulling herself together and supporting her husband’s team, which I think is fantastic. To have this sort of thing happen to her is inexcusable. I wish all parties involved endure the agony of losing a loved one, followed by getting this kind of shit pulled on them - if they’re ever even brave enough to agree to be seen in public under similar circumstances, which I doubt.

Fuck you, Beau Duran. You’re a piece of shit.

[sub]I know this is no reflection on the team, which as a fan I’m aware is a respectful and classy organization.[/sub]

Well Damn… what a sack of horse shit. Well lets all just hope that this ass is sittng in the front row and catchs a Jimmy Edmonds line drive right in the face. Eve better is if someone volunteered him to catch for Randy Johnston with no glove or gear. :wally

If you wana rally support or heckle the other team that is fine … but don’t kick a widow when she’s down. Hopefully someone will take him out in the baren wasteland and leave him for dead.

Well hopefuly the birds will win tomarrow night and we won’t have to hear from this guy Beau again… and what kind of name is Beau anyway… sounds like he should be reporting on ballet or figure scating instead of baseball. Go back to France you cheese easing bastard!

I listen to the radio station that pulled this shit. In fact, I was listening yesterday morning when they did it.

And for the record, I, TOO, am a die-hard Cardinals fan. Transplanted from the midwest about 2 years ago.

Beau Duran is a fucking moron, of THAT there’s no doubt. However, I happen to know that Mr. Duran *as a side job works as a waiter at a restaurant here in the Phoenix area, because he’s so goddamn broke. * Wouldn’t it be tragic if a handful of us Dopers started calling the restaurant, asking for Beau, and asking his coworkers and managers embarrassing questions about him and his insensitivity? Wouldn’t it be simply tragic if he lost his secondary source of income because he’s too fucking stupid to know that poking fun at a widow because you think it’s funny is fucking sick and wrong?

I will NOT stoop to posting the name and phone number of said restaurant, however. That is, unless he keeps up with his stupid shit.

And it doesn’t matter much to the Cardinals organization, anyway, who are going to stomp a fucking mudhole in the goddamn Diamondbutts on Saturday, and send them off to their golf courses prematurely.

Fuck with the bull, get the horns, dickhead. Your move.

I was pretty upset about this too. Especially because the dj will not be punished (by the station, not the Government so don’t start in with the 1st Ammendment whining). The best way to express your displeasure would be to call the station to politely complain.

Haj

Since he got alot of fans to go along with his earlier hijinks, I guess that says something about the class of the AZ fans. Of course, Cardinals fans are the best in baseball, and perhaps we’re just used to better than that.

But when he went and called the widow Kile, that was crossing just about every single line I’ve ever seen or heard of. A friend of mine made basically the same joke earlier this week, privately, and I told him it was appalling and inappropriate. Still, that was in private, and I’m not so uptight as to be too much of a prude to understand the humour some people get out of shock value like that. Taking it to the public would have been out of line. Taking it to the widow herself? Absolutely atrocious. Even Howard Stern wouldn’t cross that line, his “humour” is merely self-depricating or sexually risque.

One question though…doesn’t the radio station have to inform you that you’re going to be on the air before they air the call? I’ve heard several references to a policy like that from on-air personalities, I thought it was federal law or FCC regulation. If they didn’t inform her, was that a violation of law? And if they misled her about the call, or misrepresented themselves as legitimate journalists, what then? Perhaps there is more dastardly doing afoot in this than we thought.

Dooku:

Yeah, your wishing death on someone else is real classy too. Try not to be as big of an ass as the morons who pulled that stupid stunt.

Initial reports said that no action would be taken by the station against the dj but now they have decided on a one week suspension.

Haj

ONE WEEK!!!
Oooooooo, that pisses me off.

You would think after the Opie & Anthony debacle that whacky DJ’s would know better, but I guess not.

Duran is scum, plain and simple.

Asshat.:wally

Debacle? As I recall, they got canned by WAAF, and moved up to a nationally syndicated show, and are making a lot more money these days. Hardly a disincentive to aspiring radio pranksters.

[hijack]If I’m not mistaken, Opie was in my Boy Scout troop many years ago.[/hijack]

Do try and keep up.

O& A were fired from WNEW in NYC for airing a bit in which a couple had sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral as part of a contest to win some bullshit prize. It has since come to light that the couple in question also had sex in FAO Schwartz and another toy store earlier the same day, again as part of the contest.

So, waterj2 /Ed McMahon/

You are incorrect, sir!!

/Ed McMahon/

O& A not only don’t have a nationally syndicated radio show anymore, they have NO radio show.

Anywhere.

Oh, shit, yeah, now that you mention it, I do recall that. I was thinking of their previous controversy where they reported that Mayor Menino had died, leading to them getting canned, and then moving up in the world as I described. So I wasn’t incorrect, really, just behind the times. Actually, since I started with “As I recall”, and I did indeed recall that, I was absoluetely correct. Yeah, that’s it.

What I liked about it was Tony La Russa’s up-front attitude about his reaction to these jagoffs.

No beating around the bush.

I just heard about this tonight.

Un-FUCKING-believable.

I will be calling the radio station and insisting that they be fired several times this upcoming week. I may go as far as looking into who their advertisers are for this show, and letting them know how bad of a light their continued support for this radio show makes them look.

I am honestly appalled – and that doesn’t happen very often.

And that’s the only way action occurs.

You want so-called ‘shock jocks’ off the air. Stop listening to them. Encourage others to stop. They’re around because they bring in the ratings.

Agreed. These bottom-feeders thrive on negative attention, because some idiots think that this shows them to be “politically incorrect” or rebels. Of course, what it really shows them to be is asinine and awful.

From KUPD this doesn’t surprise me. :frowning:

I usually defend “shock jocks” on the basis that they provide a form of entertainment that (like it or not) A LOT of people find amusing. I have to admit that I find offensive humor funny on many occasions…

and even I think this Asshat should be canned.

I was watching the “Saturday TV Funhouse” segment on SNL’s season premier last night and couldn’t stop laughing. It was terribly mean and rude, but I found it entertaining (if you missed it, they lampooned Anna Nichole Smith). I think people who put themselves in the spotlight or do something asinine are fair game. Flynn Kile is just a woman going through a tragedy. There’s no excuse for being cruel to her (as opposed to Anna Nichole Smith, IMHO).

I rarely get upset abot radio antics either, but this is way over the line.

Here is KUPDs webiste, on the “contact” page are individual email addresses for the entire staff. I plan on emailing the entire management to say that one week’s suspension is insufficient punishment.

And the 2000 SDMB Prize for Best Cover-Up of an Error With a “That’s What I Meant by What I Said” goes to: waterj2!!

Actually, I’m not picking on you – but that bit of semantic sleight-of-hand deserved to be recognized for its over-the-top amusement value!

Last time I listened to a ‘shock jock’, it was when Howard Stern was still a local DC-area deejay.

Needless to say, that isn’t changing anything. If 92% of the listeners in a city want nothing to do with Mr. Morning Sleaze, that doesn’t matter if the remaining 8% are his ardent fans.

I don’t mind that the kiddie stations have shock jocks, but there should be some limits, regardless of their following. I can’t see a reason why the FCC couldn’t disallow such things as using the public airwaves to harass private citizens who weren’t seeking media attention, either by direct action or by promotions that get their listeners to do it for them.
