Yeah. I came home from work and went to get a glass of iced tea. The frige was dead as a doornail. Evidently had been most of the day because a lot of the foor inthe front of the freezer was already thawed. The ice half melted.
I called a used appliance store, he has one fridge in stock, I sure as hell can’t afford a new one. He’s delivering it about 8 PM tonight. I just praythat it works and fits in my kitchen. If not, I am shit out of luck.
I had to throw away 5 trash bags of food. I was able to fit the still frozen stuff in my small chest freezer.
I am exhausted, dripping with sweat. All I want to do is crawl in bed, but that won’t be happening for hours yet. I have cried until I am half sick to my stomach. Wasn’t even able to give the dogs their regular meal, nowhere to mix canned with the dry because my counters are packed with stuff from the fridge.
I am so fucking tired of things going wrong for me. I am about at the end of my rope.
All’s well that ends well, I suppose. The new fridge got here about 9 last night, the fella that owned the used appliance store went out of his way to deliver & install it. Wouldn’t take any extra cash for doing it either. There are some good, truly GOOD people in the world.
It fits perfectly, and I think it’s actually a little roomier than my old side by side-this one is freezer on top.
Even as tired as I was last night I didn’t sleep worth a crap. Today’s gona be fuuuuuuuun at work.
If you have homeowner’s you might see if they will cover the loss of your food. I don’t know if they will for a random bust like that, but when my electricity was out for 3 days the insurance company coughed up $880 for lost food from the freezer. Might be worth checking into.
Glad you got the new fridge and all is well. It sure bites to have to throw stuff out…on the positive side, you have a nice clean fridge again.
(Covers a LOT of home appliances, not just fridges)
There are roughly 5 components to a fridge and a Hard-Start kit ($40-$60) is designed to fix 3 of them.
Now, if the compressor won’t start because it draws too much amperage, that could be wear on the compressor and that kit will just be postponing the inevitable, but postponing is better than having to do anything Right Friggin Now.
We had the same thing happen to our fridge a little over a year ago. To repair it would have cost almost as much as a new one, so we bought a new one.
Smartest thing we have ever done!
The new fridge uses so much less electricity, our electric bill went down about $30-$40 per month! At this rate, it will pay itself off soon, if not already! Plus, it is much quieter and makes ice faster (we have an ice machine and go through a lot!).
I know it sucks to have to shell out bucks for an appliance, but they really have learned how to make better refridgerators in recent years; larger, quieter and cheaper to run.
When I was kid/teenager my dad was big time into fishing. We had a full sized upright freezer out in the garage. The only thing it was full of was various kinds of bait. It had lock/latch on it. In the middle of one hot southern summer it died. But because of the latch, and it was in the garage, it was likely well over a week before we figured it out. Needless to say it was just a bit on the nasty side in there.
