Given that Roman Catholicism is the ruling religion in Kanada, the focus is a little bit different. The Catholics certainly have their share of wealth-accumulation, and they are certainly the world’s oldest and largest criminal syndicate, but they have the benefit of a long, long history (and coffers already overflowing with two millenia of stolen wealth), in which they’ve acquired a taste for power beyond simple riches. The Catholics focus more on control through guilt and its accompanying soothing ritual than they do the crass accumulation of material goods hand over fist, like one generally sees in Amerika.

This is an interesting one. Statistics Canada tells me that there are 12,936,905 self identified Catholics in the 2001 census. It also tells me that there are 8,654,850 self identified Protestants and 4,900,090 with “no religious affiliation”. The remaining 3,147,090 are also, oddly enough, not Catholic.

More to the point, it’s really hard to find any indication that any of us really give a damn about who believes in which dogma.

If Smashy could point out to me how Harper is a secret Catholic, or was really born in the Vatican, or perhaps make the same argument for Michael Ingatieff, or Jack Layton, or maybe just pick out a national leadership debate in the last 20 years where someone was singled out as not being Catholic enough for Kanada, I’d really appreciate it.

Bonus points for evidence that Trudeau was an agent of the Pope.
