That’s part and parcel of being an admin. or a mod. on-line. If they don’t want the responsibility, they shouldn’t take the job on. Or are you implying that the fact that they aren’t paid means that the people who have been upset by this incident have no right to feel pissed off at them?
[sub]I fixed your coding for you, douchebag. – Uke, mod[/sub]
I put my vote in for “leave them alone and get over it.”
It’s.
Just.
A.

Board.
Sure, it has become a community, with all that entails, but bottom line, people, if you’re getting your shirts tied up in knots that tight, push away from the keyboard, go take a walk, and get some perspective.
No. Those were dealt with by the administration. featherlou is simply pointing out the fact that there are many bigger things worthy of your outrage.
This has been chewed to death. How many times does it need to be rehashed? Someone messed up. They were punished. Not enough in your opinion, obviously. Oh, well. Get over it and move on with your life. It’s done.
A lot of people disagree with the notion that the SDMB’s action constitute being “done.”
Telling them to get on with their lives contributes nothing except a demeaning attitude. Why is their concern any less relevant than your apparent disregard for the situation and your outright dismissal of their valid opinions?
If you’re tired of hearing about it, stop reading the related threads.
Bullshit. Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, most of them stink. Yours included. The only opinions that matter in this case are those of the people making the decisions. Read: not you. And if you are tired of things not going to your liking, you can stop posting here. Take your superior attitude and stuff it sideways.
Every time something semi-controversial happens here, the entire board explodes. There’s over reaction, panic in the streets, dogs & cats sleeping together. Then people eventually calm down. So let’s get to the calming down point already.
Of course and we could go around and around in a massive circle jerk forever. Not my thing. I’m going to watch Sideways. Y’all have fun spewing your self righteous indignation. I’m out.
Except this time there are potential legal issues involved AND the future of the board and how it’s being dealt with now that we are PAYING to be here, is in question.
That was closed with the consent of the OP. I wasn’t interested in more rebuttals, just what Dex actually felt. He was nice enough to provide that, and now I can make an informed decision on whether or not I’m satisified by what he said. Don’t read into my upcoming couple-day access, I’m off to Tahoe to play in the snow with ToddlerVor.
Was just about to leave, and got this in my inbox. Guin, you’ve been here a lot longer than I have, so if anyone would know, you would. Two questions:
First, has there ever been an incident this large in scope on the SDMB? Just yes or no, you don’t have to give details. Or if you would like to, that’s fine also. If yes, I’ll assume the Reader knows what it’s doing. If no, then I’ll agree we have a problem.
Second: What, exactly, do you want to see done?
That’s because being a dumbass fundie is a choice. Being a homosexual is not. Judging a person by their choices is acceptable behavior in a civilized society.
No, I don’t believe so, Maureen. I’ve seen some blow ups here, but nothing involving possible police investigations, moderator screw ups, and possible loss of the boards due to lawsuits. Not to this magnitude. There have been similiar incidents (Lynn revealing Aldebaran’s local; the Melin fiasco, and the Winter of Our Missed Content), but nothing that involved all three and more. I don’t believe I’ve EVER seen anything here that involved a police investigation.
Second? I don’t know. At this time, I personally don’t feel that I can trust Tuba to execute her duties as an admin in a fair, impartial, and professional manner. NOT because I dislike Tuba (I feel like a broken record, but people seem to think I hate Tuba and I’m out to get her!), or because she hasn’t been a big asset in the past. But because this was such a collossal screw up, and in the past year, she HAS made some questionable judgements. And finally, because I think if she can’t keep her emotions in check when it comes to doing her job, then she needs to step down.
And please don’t think I’m happy about that, because I’m not.
Not to mention a “fundie” refers to a type of person, who acts like an asshole when it comes to his or her faith, and uses that faith as a weapon. NOT someone who is just a very strict member of said faith. AND it’s not confined to any one religion.
Hell, we’ve had fundy atheists come here and post. Fundy=!Christian
I whole heartedly agree with the OP of this thread.
Yes, it’s a mess, but worrying about the unmarked helicopters over your house isn’t going to have much of any positive effect. From what we’ve seen about this matter, and none of us are privy to all the information, it’s going to take some time to work things out. Keep bitching about it (on either side of the issue) and all we have is an air of aggressive discontent from everyone, from lurker, to post whore, to mod.
Come on people. Let’s ease up on both the paranoia and the evangelism for a while. Don’t let the pod people win!
This seems to imply that there is a fixed reserve of outrage, best vented on important things. This is not the case, as new offenses generally generate fresh outrage pertinent to that particular initiator.
I think that’s what’s been happening here.
I’m sure there’s still plenty of outrage to go around for BushBashing/LeftyBashing/FundyBashing etc.
I haven’t participated in any of this up to now, but with all the thread closings and disappearings as well as the Reader/SDMB admins’ decision with regard to the original offense, I feel the need to be heard. Lest anyone get the idea that there isn’t a number of lurkers out there who are equally affected by this situation and may be wondering whether their opinion is relevant.
Though I’ve never been in a position of keeper of personal data or administrating a message board, I agree with those who have said that Tubadiva violated her position simply by divulging any privileged information, be it publicly available or not (and a portion of what she revealed should have never been revealed to the masses). As an admin, she is in a position of trust which she violated. She allowed her personal feelings to dictate her actions. She knowingly circumvented policy to out someone who paid for the privilege of participating here. In the process, she exposed the board to very real legal troubles (of a civil nature) and, by all appearances, violated the law. Had anyone else done so, they’d have been banned immediately and without question.
But what I’m seeing here is because she’s been here for x number of years, is in a position of trust, and has contributed greatly to the board, her transgression is being quantified and the seriousness of her abuse of trust is being diminished. It does truly present like a double standard.
I don’t really have much opinion on Tubadiva as a person or even as an administrator since own my experience with her practically nil. By all appearances, she’s been historically great. I can accept that. But I’m still troubled that she remains in a position of trust despite the fact that she’s abused that trust and so many have lost confidence in her ability to rein herself in as is neccessarily required of her position.
How effective could she possibly be at this point considering that many will wonder if her future actions are driven by her emotions or are legitimate? How confident can anyone be that she won’t abuse our trust again? In the real world, unethical behavior such as this is taken much more seriously and the consequenses are severe, as catsix pointed out.
The ChiReader and SDMB administration really ought to review their decision and take these issues into serious consideration. There have been some valid concerns raised. This is not just going to go away without some kind of fallout.
Just my $0.02 and regardless of whether anyone agrees with me, I did pay for the privilege of posting it.
