regarding "Using the name "Straight Dope.""

Well, Arnold, although there’s a 12-minute gap between your earlier post and mine, I had not seen it when I posed my question. A small matter of my failure to refresh thread plus several hamsters out for their afternoon kibbles break is probably the cause. Thanks for the (repeated) answer, though.

I didn’t mean that you hadn’t read my post, Polycarp, but that I wanted to make sure your concerns were addressed.

However, I don’t want anyone to think that I am backing down with my tail between my legs, which would be an affront to the person that inspired my SDMB screen name, so I will add that I am ready to meet you (Polycarp) in a steel-cage fight any time, any where.

Fight !! Fight!!!

Now, you know I was emotionally disturbed when I posted that. The post was pretty much “hey, this disturbed me.” I feel I can be excused a few inconsistensies.

What I meant was “these people seem to be the type I would normally associate with, except for this little glitch.” I was wondering aloud how people could be so wildly different, in one area, but seem perfectly normal in the rest.

If you’re in another MB and you link to a thread here, is that OK?

Or is it tantamount to saying that you’re a member here? Conceivably, you could link a thread here to another MB and not be a Doper, but I suppose that’s unlikely.

Personally, though it’s been a long while since I questioned or complained about a moderator action, I think this policy’s going a bit too far. I don’t care whose house it is or whether the management has to justify anything to me. It just doesn’t seem jerkish enough to merely mention that you’re a member here, somewhere else, unless the manner in which you do so is deliberately and obviously aggressive, jerkish, or otherwise a bad reflection on the Doper community.

But I don’t post anywhere else so it doesn’t matter in my case.

Once again, I’ll reiterate what I said in the other thread. We are NOT making policy here. Saying you’re from the SDMB is NOT verboten as long as an issue is not being made of it. The only reason we banned Lucki was because of the imminent possibility of a board war and the fact that we specifically asked people NOT to go over there for the time being.

Sometimes, I’ve commented on the policies, only if people have said, “Wow, this board is so fascist!” And I’ll say hey-this board is really lenient! At the SDMB, they don’t put up with crap like that. And they’re right."

I have said we’d kick your ass in the past. But I don’t do that nowadays.

And BTW, I just want to make it clear that I know it’s okay to say we post here, and I’m not questioning that. I just want to make sure I don’t make an error.

I have to be anal, I suppose.

But you still love me, right?

Right???

lets break it down to this.

Luckii was asked, as we all were, not to go over there throwing the name of the SD about.

We were asked no to go over there and try to incite debate with them, as the ignorant jackass element of SF will use it as an excuse to spam us.

the less contact between these two specific boards at this time the better.

Luckii violated this rule and was banned.

Perhaps he can apologise and everything will be gravy again.

Until then, we should all make muffins, or wear a hat to work tomorrow, you know, normal shit.

Now I understand. Makes sense to me.
