I’ve heard a song that I really loved recently. Unfortunately, both times I heard it I was at a college pub and it was too noisy to ask anyone what the name of the song was. It’s an upbeat tune that sounds reggae-ish but the chorus is pure Bone Thugs 'N Harmony. Does anyone have any idea which song I’m talking about? Thanks in advance!
If it helps jog anyone’s memory it’s a recent song that is getting decent airplay. I’d really love to know what it is called.
Is it the song with a lot of “Ba ba da da, ba ba da da!” parts, and a chorus that goes
“Take a look at my girlfriend, she’s the only one I’ve got,
Not much of a girlfriend, I never seem to get a lot” ?
If so, it’s called “Cupid’s Chokehold” by Gym Class Heroes, and it’s some kind of remake of a Supertramp song.
It might be Matisyahu? The Hasidic Jewish reggae artist. Even if that’s not it, he’s still worth checking out.
I know there’s a dancehall version of Mims’ “This is Why I’m Hot”…heard it on the radio the other day.

Does Matisyahu have a song in decent rotation right now? I don’t think it would be him, although I’ll readily admit I haven’t heard many Jewish reggae artists.
All I remember is that the tune sounds reggae but the chorus is a really fast “rap.” It isn’t really even a rap… It’s that Bone Thugs style of rhyming, words just blending into each other at a mile a minute. I’d characterize the song as happy sounding but other than that, I’m afraid I can’t provide a more accurate description… I thought the Bone Thugs style chorus would give it away for sure.

(Of course if you were aware of Sean Paul you would probably know it was him singing it, since every third or fourth word in his lyrics is “Sean Paul”)
Based on your description, it sounds a lot like Matisyahu, but I haven’t listened to the radio in at least 6 months… I’m not exaggerating at all. I don’t even know if Matisyahu gets a lot of radio play, really. Actually now I think of it I can’t think of how I heard of him… He does the Bone Thugs type stuff. I’d still recommend checking him out.

This song is proving to be way more elusive than I ever thought. If I ever hear it again I’ll try to listen for some specific lyrics that will narrow it down more. Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions so far though.

Okay, I heard the song again today and the main focus seems to be around the lyric “Nobody wanna see us together…”
A little google-fu tells me this is Akon’s “Don’t Matter” but I will confirm this for sure when I get home.
I never would have guessed that. It’s all over the radio, and didn’t even occur to me. I don’t like the song, and I can’t stand Akon.
Okay, mystery solved! It is indeed Akon’s song “Don’t Matter.”
