"Registry Damage Level Is High". 130 errors.

I’ve noticed that unless I’m already signed in here and elsewhere, I now have to sign in with my user name and password (I have Windows Vista and IE9) everywhere. I have tried looking online and it is recommended I clean my registry, and I use eusing to do that (it repaired 35 problems), and this time (to find the 130 errors) I used the Uniblue error finder, but it won’t fix them unless I pay, of course. Is there another free service I can use?

Thanks

Quasi

Do you mean logging in to web sites?

Automatic login for web sites is usually handled by cookies and could be affected by your browser’s security settings. If you clear your cookies you will need to need to log in to each site once more for it to remember you again. If your browser is set to use paranoid security settings it’s possible you will have to log in to sites every time.

Don’t use a registry cleaner. They don’t do anything useful.

Something probably just nuked your cookie folder (or IE9 isn’t storing them if you’re constantly having to sign-in again.) It could be an IE9 setting. It could be another application like CCleaner. It could be some other brand of useless drive cleaner.

Beware what software you use. I don’t have any experience with it myself, but some folks are wary of Uniblue. Some software that claims to fix problems prey on those that aren’t very technically proficient. To protect myself, I frequently use Google to check up on new software I’m not familiar with.

It may be good software, I don’t know, but there are some people who say otherwise. I’m generally wary of ‘registry fixers/cleaners’ anyway. Sorry I can’t help further. In fact, I’m about to post about my own computer issue. Good luck, Quasi.

If anything, check out from here

I’d consider cnet to be a “trusted source” and then say look only at the ones with a couple of hundred thousand downloads or more.

Yes, I meant logging into websites, sorry to be unclear. Also, Chimera, I did join CNet and used a well-downloaded registry cleaner from there.

My bolding as well as italics have stopped working! Never had that to happen before!

Thanks

You don’t need a registry cleaner for normal day-to-day use.

If you’ve got something on your computer that is claiming that a large number of things are wrong, and offering to fix them for a fee, there’s a very good chance that the claimed problems don’t actually exist, and that the program making the claim is malicious in this regard (and possibly in other ways too).

I used the Registry Repair service CNet recommended and is totally free (over a million downloads), but there’s something strange going on: After the first scan, it showed 290 errors, and I fixed them. Knowing it usually took me 2-3 times to get a clean report from eusing, I ran the scan a second time, and this time it showed 83 errors. A third time it showed 56 errors, and a fourth scan actually ADDED 8 more errors.

Many of the files had to do with Speech…

Thanks

The bold and italics buttons in the post window require javascript to be enabled in your web browser. I think resetting IE9’s security and privacy settings to the defaults would fix your problems.

To reset them to defaults go to Tools > Internet Options:
Under the Security Tab - press default all zones
Privacy Tab - press default

The default buttons in these tabs will be disabled if they are already set to defaults. Unless you have a specific reason it’s best to leave them at their default settings.
