First off, IANAD, and I know very few of YOU are doctors, so rest assured I’m not asking for definitive medical advice, just thoughts.
I’ve been through three rounds of physical therapy for my back, and with the exception of Traction, it was mostly just standard exercise: walking, crunches, strengthening the core, stretching…blah blah blah…
But I also take yoga and by default I walk about a mile a day (I live half a mile from the subway), and I swim, although I haven’t in a while.
Last week I injured my back again (this is about the fifteenth time since 1999  ) and I know the doctor is just going to send me back to therapy.
What’s the difference? It’s often inconvenient to make appointments at PT, and the stuff they do is things I already know. If I just make a rededicated effort to swimming and yoga and stretching, won’t I get the same effects as six months of PT?
