Okay a little history…Pit
I have now consulted a few of the businesses listed in the Better Business Bureau about how much it is going to cost to fix and then complete the landscaping work on my house.
Now that all of the quotes are in and I have selected a reputable contractor, what is a polite, yet professional way to let the other contractors know that I selected somebody else?
I’m sure some of you have had to do this before. What did you do?
Do you have to let the other contractors know? If someone knows that I’m just in the estimate-gathering phase, it wouldn’t occur to me to contact them just to let them know that I decided to go with someone else. In fact, when I was getting estimates on having my gutters cleaned, I ended every call with something like “thanks for the information, I’m still in the process of asking around but I’ll let you know if I decide to go with your company.” Granted, my experience with such things is quite limited, so I’m interested to see what other Dopers have to say.
In my husband’s experience, he either doesn’t get called back at all (the silence speaks for itself), or he gets a call and they say “Thanks for the estimate, we’ve decided to go with another company.”
Simple.
