Don’t you think it’d be okay for the publishers of the Straight Dope to discriminate against potential columnists who believed in Bigfoot? After all they have a reputation to uphold.
But surely you think it’d be wrong if they discriminated against people who didn’t believe in Christ as their Lord and Savior.
The fact of the matter is that religion is given special consideration under existing laws. And there are big exceptions to the rule that discrimination is unethical. Americans won’t stand to have bona fide religious institutions fined for qualifying employment on religious belief.
