Religious mottos under scrutiny again

I dunno. HHSNBN, CB, The Pashmaster, NA, it’s gotta take a toll on a guy; all those shots to the head from Creationists and such. One day you wake up and the ole noodle’s turned to mush. Sad to see it happen so soon though…

Emails received concerning requests for the full text of the letters received from the White House

From American Atheists:

"Sorry for the delay. I suggest that you contact Rob Sherman at
rob@robsherman.com

Regards,"

From Rob Sherman:

"The letters that you refer to were between Jon Murray, President of American
Atheists, and the Bush White House. I did not originate or receive copies
of any of those documents, but I’ve been told about them. For more info,
contact American Atheists at http://www.atheists.org .

Rob Sherman"

Hmmmmm.

BTW. emailed the CNN guy.

From American Atheists:

Greg Lefevre of CNN has not responded yet.

After sending another clarification and request for the letters from the White House, I received:

If one shouldn’t use “God” in a legal oath, how about this oath(vow) taken from a Heinlein juvenile “This I solemnly affirm in the Name I hold most sacred”

Here in the capital of Kansas, Topeka, we have an ongoing controversy in which a public official, head of a large department, has posted the motto “In God We Trust” in the office she oversees. A local resident whom I once knew well has gone to the ACLU, and through them a suit has been filed to have the motto removed. It’s causing a BIG brouhaha here.

Just once I’d like to see a state motto that actually reflects the attitudes of its people. For Hawaii, “We’ll get to work on it whenever we damn feel like it.” would make a lot more sense than “The life of the land is perpetuated in righteousness.” (Anyone who’s lived here knows that it’s about as righteous as a heavy metal concert.)

And between disappointing me too many times to count in my childhood and being the source of endless hatred in many parts of the world, I trust God about as far as I can kick him.
