Here’s what a bible-bound idito frined of mine said after reading something about 2/3 of all death row inmates having an unjust trial and how much more likely a black person will be convicted of murdering someone and sentenced to death than a white person is.

Simpson come to mind)? The writer said that people who killed whites were often more executed than people who kill blacks? Maybe that’s because it’s the black people that are doing the killing against the WHITE people!”
What ever happened to love thy neighboor whne it comes to these people?
Religious bigots don’t need to die. They (or at least those cute young Mormon guys who go around in pairs) need to come to my house so that I can exert my homosexual wiles to lure them into depraved orgies of sodomy and paganism, and so I can find out whether that thing about the underwear is true.
Fuck, if I could convince some cute young Mormon missionaries to join me in some depraved orgies, I would have done it by now. Matt, you’ll have your work cut out for you.
But living deep in the bible belt, and being an agnostic (something of a rarity around here), I think I understand where he’s coming from. I’m disabled and home a lot. I have had some of the more rabid, deep-water Baptists come to my door and stop barely short threatening me if I didn’t join the local church - it’s only about a mile down the road.
I am an old, ill-tempered redneck. Initally, I am polite, but I do not react well to threats, even the ‘almost’ kind. After the last time, they consigned me to hell and went away mad after I informed them that they were trespassing and to get their sorry, missionary asses away from my door or get them kicked all the way back down the road to the church (as if I could, hehe). I know a lot of the people in that congregation and most are nice folks. It’s just a few of them that are assholes.
What I’ll do next time, if there is one and I don’t think there will be, is call the sheriff. It won’t amount to anything, of course, but it’ll liven up the day.

I live in Virginia, which is second only to Texas in the number of executions carried out each year.
I am not opposed to the death penalty, some crimes call out for it, like a recent case in our county where this guy gets pissed off at his wife for screwing around … to teach her a lesson he takes his fourteen year old stepdaughter and their four year old daughter up to the mountains and slits (saws) their throats with a steak knife.
He came to his senses and ask the judge for the death penalty and was obliged. First thing he ever did right IMO.
However, there are enough documented cases of innocent people being shafted that I don’t see a problem in granting a stay if there is any possibilty of a DNA test or something proving innocence.
Several times in my memory, inmates have been put to death here because the courts refuse to hear new evidence because the time limit for these exhibitions has expired. Thats just stupid, is the world going to end because we feed a death row inmate for another thirty days just to make sure he’s guilty?
