Remake of Erroll Flynn Movies? ("The Sea Hawk", Capt. Blood")?

I loved these “swashbuckler” movies…and Errol Flynn was such a talented guy.
Has there ever been a remake of these classics?

Up until the Pirate of the Caribbean franchise, it was a cliche that pirate movies were always poor sellers: Swashbuckler, The Pirates of Penzance, Pirates, Yellowbeard, Cutthroat Island, etc

The was a sequel to “Captain Blood” in 1964 called “The Son of Captain Blood” starring Sean Flynn (Errol’s son). It was pretty lousy.

As Little Nemo says, until the “Pirates of the Caribbean”, the pirate movies released were box office flops.

“The Sea Hawk” is much more than a simple “pirate” movie…it is a historical drama-featuring King Philip II of Spain, Queen Elizabeth of England, and is quite well made (for a 1930’s movie.)
Also, the musical score (by E.W. Korngold) is firts class.
I think a remake would do well-maybe Brad Pitt as the leading man?

I don’t know how good ‘Captain Blood’ is considered to be, or worthy of a remake - but Erroll Flynn? YOWZA! Extraordinarily good looking dude even in an old black and white movie.

According to imdb, a remake of Captain Blood is in development.

I think we are overdue for a Rafael Sabatini revival. His novels seem to make fun movies.

I always thought “Princess Bride” was a remake (or update or homage or rip-off or whatever) of Erroll Flynn movies in general.

Maybe along with some Thomas Costain, Edison Marshall, and A.E.W. Mason. (Okay there was a remake of The Four Feathers in 2002.)
