“Los Angeles, 31 January 2011: Essential Entertainment has joined Lion Rock Productions in its remake of THE KILLER in 3D, currently in pre-production…”
Boo.
The Killer is a great movie, and it doesn’t need craptacular 3D. Jung Woo-Sung was excellent in The Good, The Bad, The Weird, but this is a film that doesn’t need to be made.
This is so wrong! There’s a reason no one is remaking Gone with the Wind or Casablanca - because you don’t fuck with some thing that achieved perfection the first time around.
The reason that many of Woos’ Hong Kong films were so good was because of the screen presence of Chow Yun Fat. And considering what Woo has done since he came to Hollywood…I have my doubts about this.
At the very least I hope Yun Fat gets a role in this.
Why oh why? In 3-D? Not only does *The Killer *not need a remake, it doesn’t need a gimmick either.
Trying to find a bright side here–ok, Woo is a producer so no one is raping his baby without his permission. Jung Woo-Sung was great in The Good, the Bad & the Weird (which was a very fun flick), and Lee’s *A Moment to Remember *is one of my all-time favorite movies. It is, however, a teary romantic melodrama (no one does melodrama like the Koreans) so I’m not sure how he’ll handle something like The Killer.
Well, The Killer is melodramatic at points, but it also has plenty of action. It’ll be interesting, to say the least.
I think the remaking pisses me off less than the 3D, honestly.
