I’ve received the latest catalogue from The Easton Press. You know, I love fine books. I have fine books from a few different publishers, but those from The Easton Press are the nicest.
As usual, the catalogue lists the Rembrandt Family Bible, which is illustrated with ‘116 Rembrandt masterpieces!’ A handsome book indeed. Now, I’m not a religious person. But I’m interested in religions from a philosophical standpoint. (The Easton Press also has a collection that includes Gospels, The Torah, Tao Te Ching, The Bhagavad Gita, The Koran, and Dhammapada.) So why not start out with the religious book most known to my culture?
The price is steep though. These 1,384 leather-bound pages cost a total of $225! Better check eBay.
Which brings me to the thing that prompted me to post. There aren’t many Easton Press Bibles on eBay. Only a couple of them are the Rembrandt ones. And here’s the thing: This guy’s selling them with Buy It Now for $350!. :dubious:
What’s the deal? Why would anyone pay $125 more than they have to? Certainly the guy knows how much they cost? Looks to me as if he’s preying on gullible people.
But speaking of Easton Press books… Moby Dick.
I was in a book store last week, where we were shooting a scene for our film. I saw that they had some used Easton Press editions on the shelf near the cash register. Moby Dick was priced at $50. You can get it for six bucks through The Easton Press. You may cancel your subscription to The 100 Greatest Books and keep Moby Dick without having to buy any more books.
What’s the deal with this price gouging?
