Ah, of course. While I feel I should have caught that reference, I also feel that reading this thread has vicariously made me a blithering idiot with little or no sense of reality (or any willingness to at least appear to have such sense) and I blame Bush.
And by the way, AtG, this doesn’t give you any points either:
I think you DO care about your public persona. It just so happens that your “persona” exudes the overblown defensiveness common to those who affect nonconformity. Either you really don’t understand what everyone is trying to tell you (and that is simply to tone it down a notch or three), or you are a stubborn gnat, too dense and immature to comprehend that you act like a nuisance. You behave like Reeder-lite (only he wrote coherently) and it turns people off.
I’ve been wanting to get that off’a my chest for a while. Just marinate, man, and listen to what the people are trying to tell you.
If you’re asking whether there is any sort of popularity ranking that you can handily look up, then no. But figuring it out for yourself is not all that difficult.
If you have been pitted multiple times
If the mods are constantly having to interject in your threads
If almost all the posts in your thread are by you
If the mods have started giving you warnings
If a good percentage of all the posts in your thread that aren’t by you are going “Dude, wtf?”, “What the hell are you smoking?”, “Nah nah man, Alaric is fun let him stay let him stay!!”
If most of the posters in your GD threads that happen to actually take off are almost never seen in any other GD threads but are often spotted in the Pit
etc.
Now you can not care about your public persona all you want and ignore all the feedback you are getting, but all that results in is eventually getting bitch slapped. So you just need to decide whether you would rather be someone cool, or you would rather be the butt of half the boards’ jokes, the antagonist of the other half, and just waiting to be suspended or banned. Either way, that’s still only talking about your internet life. Based on the level of doped-uppedness you appear to be going through in your off-work hours, you might want to start looking into seeing if you don’t need help on being someone cool in real life first.
I have one, too. It keeps dropping out when I do the obligatory (I run windows)system restore twice a week, but I must have some inner resistance, cause I forget to reinstall it.
I thinkit brings up boundary issues–I’m really bad about authority, and it wants to give me style suggestions…
I think they were “Shut the fuck up Alaric the Goth” and the new and improved “Everyone stop replying to Alaric the Goth.” (Don’t feel like finding links at the moment.)
Well, not actually cool. But like training wheels on a bicycle. You’re not actually cool until you can handle without the help–but still better than a face-plant,
Looks like I misremembered the title of the old one, though. And apparently you had a third, though not terribly popular one here, which I didn’t see before (I don’t generally read the Pit.)
A puzzled grope occurs between a boy and his sister over a jug of rye. I think “gripe” is the word you were groping for. Also, I was unaware that one is required to run a system restore operation on one’s computer every couple of days. System restore was always the last line of defense for me during my file-sharing days to make sure my computer didn’t get royally fucked by a virus. I was further unaware that spellcheck required a separate reinstallment operation after a system restore.
You live an amazingly complicated life. How do you ever find the time to post so prolifically here?
Thank you. I had absolutely no idea that there was a film featuring a character called “Atticus Finch”, nor that there was some kind of famous actor named Gregory Peck in the role, as in fact I selected my username by shutting my eyes and randomly tapping at the keyboard. What a coincidence.
Wow. It’s amazing. It’s most certainly a good movie. Yes. An amazing movie, about lost hopes in a tragic land, with two brothers that must one day kill each other to survive.
I think Dreamworks is remaking it as an animated feature, with the brothers as real mockingbirds this time.
(Okay. Sometimes I’ve been caught out by someone making a clever reference to my username, and just blanked on why people would talk about the weekend.)
