Reminder for anyone who has an automatic ice maker

Every so often, you need to pull out the ice bin, dump out all the old ice, and clean the inside of the bin.

Damn, that was nasty. :smack:

Yes. If nothing else, the older ice tends to stick together.

We go through so much ice, it doesn’t have to be cleaned much.
However, it does occasionally clump up in the back, so when taking those large chunks out we do clean it as well.
More importantly, for us at least, is to remember to change the filter every six months or so. Usually we can tell when the water starts to taste like Las Vegas tap water (ugh!) that it is time to go get a new filter.

Oh, I think that Las Vegas tap water didn’t taste nearly as nasty as Chicago tap water, but I haven’t been to Vegas in over 20 years. Chicago water is NASTY, though.

Also, this is one reason why I don’t have an automatic ice maker or water dispenser in the fridge…I know that I WILL forget to do the maintenance until I drink something that makes go hork.

panache45, that’s exactly what made me pull out the bin. I live alone and don’t go through much ice, so it was sticking together along the sides of the bin, and I thought I’d just dump it all out and start over.

I didn’t think the ice tasted funny, but maybe I was so used to it I couldn’t tell. I’m on a well, so the water has always smelled/tasted different from what I’m used to. I’m telling myself it’s been good for my immune system.
