Remote access to network thru VPN...help??

I inherited a rather piece-meal network with admittedly very little training, so please forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I am trying to remotely access 2 or 3 workstations on my network using PCAnywhere.

When I install the Host & the Remotes within the network, everything is fine, and it works.

I can also connect out to a remote machine (my home PC).

However, I can’t connect from outside the network in. It seems as though all the IP addresses in the network are hidden behind our (Shiva) VPN. OK, simple enough …security rules

Here’s the dumb part: Why can’t I administrate the VPN? I can’t find any sort of Admin or Access Manager program anywhere on the server! Where the hell is this thing?

Am I wrong to even be looking for a single gui where I can allow remote access via specific IP addresses?

Yep.

On the PC that lives outside the firewall, you need the Shiva VPN client. This connects to your Shiva VPN server, authenticates, and creates a new virtual ip address within the network. Then it is like being on the inside of the network.

But

You don’t give enough detail about your network setup - and you may not have enough info to do this.

Is the Shiva a stand-alone firewall/vpn. If so, it may have a web management interface - check the documentation.

The Shiva may authenticate from your network server - in which case you will need to belong to a specific group, and use your logon and password to authenticate through the VPN.

The Shiva may have it’s own user database - you will need admin access to modify that.

Does anyone use the VPN - it may not be configured at all.

Can you contact the previous admin? It may be your best bet to find out what is set up.
