Remote for my PS2?

Can I use a universal remote to use the DVD player on my PS2? Or, do I have to buy the one that Sony makes especially for it? I’d rather have just one remote that can be used on the PS2, TV, VCR, and cable box…am I asking for too much?

Here you go.

Whoops. Looks like that link won’t work. Try the parent site or enter the words “ps2,” “universal,” and “remote,” into a search engine.

If you did what would you do about the IR part that you put in the controller port? Cuz you won’t get one with a universal remote.

Yeah, the remote comes with an IR reciever to hook up to the controller port. You need the reciever to use any sort of remote with the PS2.

You don’t have to buy Sony’s, but it is the only PS2 remote that I know of that adds functionality that you can’t do with just the controller. For example, with just the controller, you can only fast forward/rewind in one speed, but with the remote, you have three speeds. All the third party remotes just emulate the controller, IIRC.

Is the universal remote a learning one? If so, you could buy the PS2 remote and use the universal one, though programming it would be tedious. If not, the PS2 remote might have the same codes as another DVD Remote (probably one of Sony’s), and you might be able to find the right one if you fool around enough.
